Dell Inspiron 9400

Started by HJennerway · 10 months ago

I needed a laptop with a dual core processor, but also a decent graphics card. The Inspiron 9400 was one of the only laptops available that had both, and at £1950, it’s not a bad price either. Thanks to UPS, I received the laptop within two days of placing my order with Dell ... Continue reading »

  • Yes, but would you really want to rip open your £2000 laptop just to save a few quid on RAM?

The problem is, I've been waiting all my life, I was sick of waiting. I waited for Core Duo instead of getting an XPS, and yes, I'm probably going to regret buying this when they release the next model next year, but that's the same with everything.
  • How heavy is it? It certainly looks heavy. I wouldn't want to lug that around.

    What is the battery life?
  • It's not particularly heavy, I really don't notice it because the bag I bought to put it in has padded straps. You certainly know you've got something solid for your money. Battery life is about 2 hours, which is about average for a notebook of this specification.
  • sweet laptop and nice review!

one of the thing to point at is:

    * the cost of upgrading the ram from 1 gig to 2gig from dell is twice as buying the 2gig ddr2 from newegg.
*7900 gtx mobile is just couple of months away smile.gif yay
    * conroe processor is due out in summer so people who are expecting to spend atleast 1.5 - 2K + on a dell laptop should wait till end of the summer.
  • Haha you dont rip anything just remove the two screws on the back, put the second memory chip and put back the screws and you are ready @_@
  • Actually I had to open it up to replace the heatsink and fan, which were full of dust. It wasn't not as hard as I though :P
  • Could someone has Inspiron 9400 tell me how many FANs on this laptop?
I know the Inspiron 9300 has 2 fans. I purchased a Inspiron 9400 but it has only one fan and the 2nd vent was empty without a fan. I am very concerned the Inspiron 9400 will be overheated with one fan
  • Mine has two fans, but it still gets pretty hot playing games. It's never overheated though.
  • I just got a Inspiron 9400. It has only one fan and the other vent is empty also. I am very concerned but Dell couldn't give me a consistent answer. Many sites reviewed I9400 mentioned there are two fans. I purchased two Dell Inspiron 9400 and both have one fan only. I returned the first one. I am wondering if I should the 2nd one???
  • Mine has two fans. One for the CPU and one for the graphics card. They're on either side near the speakers.
  • "so the first thing I did was format and install XP Professional."
Could you pls guide me on the steps to do this?
My machine was infected by a virus recently, and I am attempting a clean install with my new copy of XP, and then install the drivers that came with the Dell CD. T I have modified setup to boot from the CD, but still the system hangs after booting up, and refused to read the DVD drive if I want to explore the DVD to initiate Setup. Thanks.
  • You need to boot from your XP CD, delete all partitions on the drive, then create a new partition and install XP onto it. Once setup has finished you can install partition magic or another non-destructive partitioning app and create more partitions if you need to.
